Rapper Eminem Discusses His Drug Addiction With Anderson Cooper

Drug addiction costs the U.S. $484 billion every year, according to Drug-Addiction-Support.org. Rehabilitation facilities can provide individuals with the support they need to detoxify, but it isn’t easy to face the reality of addiction. As substance abuse remains a growing concern, even celebrities have been affected by the negative repercussions of using drugs.

In a 60 Minutes interview that aired on Oct. 10, rapper Eminem opened up to reporter Anderson Cooper about his own personal struggle with drugs. At one point, the star admitted to being addicted to Valium, Vicodin and Ambien. Eminem abused the medications and eventually found himself close to death after passing out in his own home.

“[Doctors] said if I got to the hospital two hours later, that would’ve been it,” Eminem said in the interview.

The rapper says he has detoxified and turned his life around since that incident, but more than 20 million Americans aged 12 or older admitted to using illicit drugs in 2006, according to Drug-Addiction-Support.org. Not all individuals have come to terms with their addiction like Eminem. Drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers can help addicts recover and live healthier lives.
